Punainen Risti Ensiapu is a specialist organisation owned by the FRC headquarters and districts, which coordinates the FRC’s first aid expertise and the development of first aid training programmes.
The Training Programmes unit is responsible for the development of FRC first aid training programmes, the production of learning resources, partnerships and First Aid Instructor basic and refresher courses.
The Training Services unit organises FRC first aid training courses as a partner organisation.
Together, we are Punainen Risti Ensiapu – a pioneer in first aid training.
As part of the Finnish Red Cross, our proceeds go towards the help and support activities of the FRC for the benefit of all of us living in Finland. Our activities are governed both by the principles and code of ethics of the Red Cross and by the desire to protect life in all circumstances.
The Finnish Red Cross has almost 140 years of experience in first aid. The first FRC first aid training course was run in 1885. First aid training has evolved and changed shape over the years, but its significance has stayed the same: first aid skills foster a sense of safety on an individual level and, through the Red Cross, across the whole Finland.
Our goal is to have people who can administer first aid in every home and at every workplace.
We are guided by trust, responsibility and our desire to improve.
We train first-aiders with the know-how and courage to act.
We are part of the international Red Cross movement and Finland’s national preparedness and response framework. Through our operations, we strengthen the objective of the Red Cross to be the leading first aid operator both in normal circumstances and during emergencies.
We are a responsible employer, and our employees feel a strong sense of meaning in their work. We set an example ourselves and have trained our entire staff in first aid skills. As a social enterprise, our proceeds go towards the domestic operations of the Finnish Red Cross.
Continuous development, utilisation of technology and controlled change ensure the sustainability and pioneering nature of our operations. The production of information and knowledge-based management are what support the impact and profitability of our operations.
Our partnership and expert programmes bring value to our network which is an important part of national first aid preparedness. Our professional skills and experience as an organiser of first aid training are visible to our customers and course participants as high-quality first aid training that increases the courage to act and help.
We are responsible for teaching life-saving skills to as many people as possible.
We strive for the common good
Punainen Risti Ensiapu is a social enterprise. We follow the principles of the Red Cross in our decision-making and everyday choices. We are WWF-audited and have WWF Green Office certification.
We trust our people and give them responsibility to acknowledge their competence. We have a work ability management programme, and we measure employee well-being on a monthly basis. We conduct work motivation surveys every six months, which show consistently high levels of morale (spring 2024: 4.3/5).
Our operations are guided by a vision of Finland where as many people as possible are trained in first aid – an emergency can happen anywhere and at any time. An investment in FRC first aid training is an investment in the common good: our proceeds go towards the help and support activities of the Finnish Red Cross.
We promote a safer Finland
We are the leading first aid operator in Finland, both in normal circumstances and during emergencies. We have the capacity to quickly train a large number of people with first aid skills anywhere in Finland. We maintain a national first aid training register, which gives the authorities information on first aid readiness.
We are part of the preparedness and response framework of the whole country. Approximately 100,000 people complete FRC first aid training every year. All our employees have completed at least the FRC First Aid Course EA 1®.
We give people the confidence to help
First aid is a life skill, not just a certificate. FRC first aid training is based on scientific evidence and decades of experience in first aid training.
We train with professionalism. All our courses are run by certified First Aid Instructors who have the competence of a health care professional.
An authentic Red Cross first aid course has a title with the prefix FRC. Our expert programme keeps the competence of leading first aid experts at a high level.
